Since I am patiently waiting for a response from the publisher (because they're swamped), I have taken the liberty of getting started on the sequel to my currently *top secret* novel. In some ways, it's still in early planning, but it many other ways, there are several plot and worldbuilding things I've already constructed that I had planned since around the middle of the first novel (including some things that won't even happen until the third novel... currently planned to be a trilogy with a possible fourth, but the third already has a definitive "end").

The weird thing is when writing the sequel turns out to be harder than the original. Might just need to get back into the swing of things, but it could be because I wanted to make the original somewhat self-contained. You know, because cliffhangers are so overdone. I know what I want to do with this next project, but the meat of what I'm trying to achieve is still thousands upon thousands upon thousands of words away.

On January 21st, I started the path down a road many travel, but not nearly as many make it to the end.

On November 29th, I officially penned the final word of my novel.

Throughout the course of the eleven months (mostly as a result of procrastination), I had been constantly revising the manuscript, improving on continuity errors, character development, and the overall flow of the story. I feel that I have gotten it to the point of submission and, after having written up the synopsis (which ended up being a little easier than I thought), I decided to submit it to the publisher I've had my eye on.

And I did. Today. 123,000 (or more specifically, 10,000 of that number) words, submitted to the publisher, and now I get to nervously await their response. Don't know what will become of it, but I am looking forward to it.

It's annoying when you put your birthday into a form and you accidentally put the month as the day. By the way, that birthday of mine is today!

Don't know what I'm doing today, but I'm excited.

I've been working on the last chapter of my novel, as well as a two page synopsis (that thing that most dread). Hopefully it won't be too hard.

5,000 words left roughly to write for my first novel. As I go along this last (or second-to-last) chapter, I've been going back and forth fixing plot inconsistencies, and it definitely added some much needed depth to one of my characters. But, time races on, and that last word is so close I can feel it.

The (First) Final Stretch

110000 Words

It seems that my motivation to finish this has skyrocketed. Just ten thousand more to go (give or take a few thousand) and we will have a finished first draft. I already feel like celebrating, but I'll continue to reserve that for when I pen the final word.

100000!!!!

What? You mean there's still 20,000 words to go?

Sorry, I'll stop raging now.

Novel Progress Update For No Reason

It's amazing how much life can distract you from what you really want to do. Over a month has passed and I've only managed 5,000 measly words. I can see the end though, and it's all starting to come together. Too much of my life has gone into this already to give up now.

90,000 Words

That took forever.

30,000 words (approx.) to go.

A full month since my last post, and I've still yet to hit the 90,000 milestone. Clearly I need to invest more time into this thing or it's never going to get done, and I've put too much work into this to give up now. There's still a lot more to write, and stories that want to be told.

Life, please complete my novel for me. :frustration:

But seriously, the writing process; it's something.
